Perform a Calibration Check

DM2

Learn how to check your gauge’s calibration. This can be done quickly and easily in the field. https://youtu.be/TzFlmCvfnGs

Why it Matters

  • Digital gauges can drift over time—even small errors affect airtightness results.

  • Surprisingly, tube issues (pinching, water, leaks) are more frequent problems and can cause larger errors than gauge drift.

  • A quick field calibration can catch both gauge and tubing issues, ensuring trustworthy data.

Do This before Every Test

  1. Connect Channels A and B
Plug a clean pressure tube between Channel A and Channel B ports on the gauge.

  2. Set to Pressure Mode
Switch the gauge to show PrA and PrB readings.

  3. Wait for Stabilization
Allow time for pressure to equalize, considering any active time-averaging settings.

  4. Confirm Accuracy
Readings should match within 2%. If they do, your gauge and tubing are working properly.
If not, inspect tubes and fittings—replace or reroute until stable.

This quick check takes less than a minute and is recommended daily or before critical tests, preventing false readings or wasted trips.

Trouble Shooting Tips

Problem Indicator                                                                            Likely Cause                                                                             Fix

>2% difference                                                                  pinched/blocked tube or gauge drift                                             swap tubes; recheck

Slow leaks                                                                           tube damage or loose connection                                                replace tube/fitting

Water in tube                                                                                    erratic readings                                                                blow or drain tube

Sun/wind interference                                                                  baseline readings drift                                                      shade or secure tubing

A simple channel-to-channel check is the fastest, most effective field test you can perform. It ensures both your gauge and tubing are functioning correctly—so your blower-door or duct tests are based on solid, reliable data.
