Level 1 – Introduction to Airtightness

Level 1 is designed for witnessing authorities, testing and commissioning companies, and consultants. Learn how air behaves within a building and how it affects energy efficiency. Gain an understanding of acceptable testing conditions and the factors that influence test results. This course also includes a section specifically for witnessing authorities, helping them understand what to look for during an airtightness or blower door test to properly assess the quality of the test.

Module includes:

  • Why airtightness testing?

  • Fundamentals of the blower door

  • Rules and regulations: international and local

  • Ventilation systems and their relationship with airtightness

  • Witnessing an airtightness test

  • Common pitfalls and testing tips

Level 2 – Basic Airtightness Testing

Level 2 is designed for testers. This course teaches technicians about blower door testing equipment, including basic theory and operation, and provides the foundation for performing a single-fan airtightness test in accordance with ASTM, LEED, ISO, EN, ATTMA (Estidama, Green Building regulations, IBC), and other standards. Technicians will become familiar with the equipment and Retrotec’s FanTestic Pro software. They will also learn about the differences between testing procedures under various standards.

Module includes:

  • Conducting a building envelope leakage test

  • Building preparation

  • Pressure gauge training

  • Blower door equipment training

  • Analyzing results with software

  • Troubleshooting

  • Leak detection in building envelopes that fail testing

  • Aerodynamics vs. blower door
