Enclosure Integrity Testing Training Program
Level 1 – Enclosure Integrity Fundamentals
Level 1 provides the foundational knowledge required by witnessing authorities to confidently verify that an enclosure integrity test has been conducted correctly. This includes a detailed checklist and step-by-step guide designed to ensure that all critical factors are accounted for and properly evaluated.
This level is essential for designers and consultants, equipping them with the information needed to effectively design enclosures and clean agent systems. Well-designed systems maximize agent hold time, minimize peak pressure, and reduce risks during smoke events.
Testers will gain a thorough understanding of the verification and design principles that align with both designer expectations and witness requirements.
Prerequisite for Level 2: Successful completion of Level 1 is required before advancing to Level 2.
Expiration Policy: Training at any level (1–3) must be completed within six months from the start date. After this period, a recertification fee will be required to resume any unfinished training or progress to higher levels.
Level 2 – Basic Testing & Peak Pressure Analysis
Level 2 is intended for testers ready to work hands-on with door fan equipment. It covers the fundamental theory and practical operation required to conduct single-fan enclosure integrity tests in compliance with NFPA 2001, ISO 14520, or EN 15004 standards.
Technicians will:
-
Become familiar with the Enclosure Integrity Test Form and its step-by-step process
-
Use the accompanying guide to understand each phase of testing
-
Complete exercises using Retrotec’s FanTestic Integrity software, which automates calculations to meet global compliance standards
Additionally, testers will learn to:
-
Predict descending interface and continuous mixing retention times
-
Estimate peak pressure based on measured leakage
-
Conduct separate tests to determine installed pressure relief vent areas and enclosure leakage
This course includes training for both ISO and NFPA protocol paths.
Expiration Policy: As with all levels, training must be completed within six months of the start date. A recertification fee applies to resume expired or incomplete training.
Level 3 – Advanced Testing & Leakage Location
Level 3 is tailored for experienced technicians looking to expand their capabilities beyond single-fan testing. It focuses on larger, more complex enclosures and advanced techniques for locating and quantifying leakage paths.
Technicians will learn:
-
Leakage distribution measurement using pressure neutralization with dual fans
-
Techniques involving plastic membranes for leakage mapping
-
Advanced testing procedures for attached volumes, extended discharge durations, and subfloors
This course also delves deeper into the theory behind the tests, enhancing the technician’s ability to interpret results and understand the physical phenomena being measured.
Expiration Policy: Completion is required within six months of enrollment. A recertification fee is necessary to continue or add new levels after expiration.
- Access your courses anytime, anywhere, with a computer, tablet or smartphone
- Videos, quizzes and interactive content designed for a proven learning experience
- Unlimited access. Take your courses at your time and pace
Certification is awarded upon successful completion of each level. Grading criteria are based on performance in theoretical understanding, software application, and hands-on exercises. Completion of Level 1 is mandatory before moving on to subsequent levels.
