Enclosure Integrity Training Courses |
| Retrotec offers the following training courses focusing on how to use a blower door system according to NFPA 2001, ISO 14520, EN15004 and AS4214 standards. |
This coursework is done by correspondence at the students own pace. If you are interested in purchasing training, contact us at fire@retrotec.com
Level 1 - Introduction to Clean Agent Training
|
Level 1 teaches Enclosure Fundamentals and is targeted at Witnesses, Authorities, Designers, and Consultants. Testers must also pass this level of training. Enclosure Design NFPA 2001 requires an enclosure integrity test to assure an adequate clean agent retention time. Agents runs out too fast to prevent re-ignition. A more important reason however, is that the enclosure is the first line of defense against smoke. Smoke events in adjacent rooms or even outdoors, can cause false discharges. The suppression system may actually cause smoke to be pulled into the protected enclosure. Relief vents invariably suffer from one or more of the following problems: Vents are blocked, non-existent or don’t open at all risking enclosure damage Learn how to correctly specify enclosure integrity, relief vents and fire-stopping to avoid common and costly pitfalls. Save your clients money and greatly improve their fire protection for no additional cost. Use CA2001 software as a design tool to optimize suppression system performance.
Topics include:
- How Unintended Mixing Occurs
- Good Pressure Relief Vent Design
- Good and Bad Enclosure Designs
- Wind Losses can exceed NFPA prediction
- Fail-Safe Design
- Writing an Enclosure Specification
- Passive Fire Protection Design Exceptions to the 10 minute
- Pass/Fail Criteria
- Selecting the best Clean Agent
- Specifying the Measurement of Installed Vents
- Witnessing a Test
An easy checklist method will be taught where the most common tester errors will be revealed. Use the CA2001 Windows Software to review enclosure test results and get technical support on doubtful tests. The Field Calibration Test will be demonstrated since it is the easiest way to ensure the system, tester, and software are all functioning correctly.

Level 2 - Enclosure Integrity Training
|
Level 2 is oriented towards the Basic Tester who uses a single door-fan to conduct the whole-room leakage test on the most basic of rooms. This course is useful for all makes of door-fan equipment.
Course content:
- Prepare the enclosure for testing
- Set up hard-panel and aluminum frame door-fan equipment
- Use a single door-fan to measure whole room leakage
- Use CA2001 Windows Software to predict whole room retention time
- What to do with a failed room
- Perform field calibration tests to prove the system works
- Examine return-paths and analyze attached volumes
- Locate leaks with and without a smoke puffer
- Sealing leaks and repeat testing Exam for Level 2 Certification
|
Level 3 - Leakage Split Measurement and Multi-Fan Testing
|
Level 3 is tailored to the Intermediate Tester who wants to be able to perform the BCLA/Leakage Split measurement to pass problem rooms and uses multiple blowers to test large rooms, ceiling spaces, and sub-floors.
Course Content:
- Measure lower leaks the hard way, using Plastic-on-Ceiling Test
- Perform the neutralization test on false ceilings. This is the most powerful technique available for measuring leak distribution and passing rooms that otherwise would fail.
- Designing an devaluating rooms with Extended Discharge
- Large room tests
- Multi Blower Testing
- Testing and providing solutions to problem rooms
- Small rooms that won’t pass
- Performing sub-floor only tests
- Wind effects on gauge readings
- Wind Damping and other techniques
- How to measure static flows due to HVAC imbalances
- Use CA2001 for estimating leak distribution
Review the course materials and then send the completed exam to our office for marking. |
